Director of England

Sustrans are leading on a mission to transform communities for the better – and we need you to help us tell our story. 

We are seeking to appoint a Director of England to lead and influence active travel initiatives across England, contributing to Sustrans' mission of making it easier for people to walk and cycle. With an inspiring vision, and a fresh new brand on the horizon, we’re ready to grow our supporter base and build impactful partnerships.

Sustrans is a UK charity making it easier and more exciting for everyone to walk, wheel, and cycle, creating healthier places and happier lives. Since 1977, Sustrans have been the proud guardians of the National Cycle Network, a vibrant 12,000+ mile web of routes across the UK, including over 5,000 miles of traffic-free paths.

As Sustrans’ emerges from a major reorganisation, you’ll join as a key leader, ready to tackle bold funding conditions, unite teams, and deliver on our ambitious strategy.

In this pivotal leadership role, you’ll drive our vision by influencing key stakeholders, including combined and local authorities, statutory funders, and strategic transport organisations. You'll be at the forefront of managing critical relationships including Active Travel England, the Department for Transport, National Highways, government departments and beyond.

This role drives impactful behaviour change projects, inspiring the next generation to embrace active, sustainable travel. You'll lead innovative travel planning initiatives and build dynamic partnerships to make a real difference.

With your strategic leadership and ability to navigate devolved funding opportunities, you'll amplify our impact and grow our influence across England. You will inspire change, drive change and help to lead the way in transforming Active Travel Across England.
